Iontophoresis

By October 16, 2008

Follow me on:

Iontophoresis is a medical treatment used to deliver medication across the skin to deeper tissues by the use of electrical polarity. Physical therapists occasionally use this mechanism to deliver steroid medication to sites of inflammation or swelling.

My physical therapist just started Iontophoresis on my ankle for a tendon tear. He put the medication on one pad over the hurt area, the saline solution on the other pad on the other side of my ankle, and then wrapped the whole thing with a bandage. He told me to remove it after 24 hours. Does it generate it’s own electrical current?

HAVE YOU HEARD OF UTILIZING SALINE SOLUTION INSTEAD OF DEXAMETHOSONE IN TREATING SHLD ADHESIVE CAPSULITIS? THE REASON WHY I AM ASKING IS BECAUSE I HAVE A PATIENT WHO IS ALLERGIC TO STERIOD MEDS AND SHE HAS ALOT OF INFLAMMATION IN HER SHLD.
