The first annual Take the Stairs Day is scheduled for January 9th, 2013. It is an event sponsored by the USA Stair Climbing Association that encourages people to reap the benefits of stair climbing by using stairs instead of elevators.

Stair climbing can be great exercise that can help boost cardiovascular and pulmonary fitness levels and can help keep your leg muscles like the quadriceps and hamstrings strong. Plus, to participate you do not need any special equipment. Simply avoid the elevator today and take the stairs.

Of course, you should consult your doctor before starting any exercise program to ensure that you are healthy enough for exercise.
