Pop singer Lady Gaga has cancelled several shows on her Born This Way Ball tour due to severe joint inflammation. Fox news reports that Lady Gaga is suffering from synovitis, or inflammation of the synovial lining around her joints.
The singer posted on Twitter that she has been "hiding a show injury and chronic pain for some time now. Over the past month it has worsened. I've been praying it would heal... I hid it from my staff, I didn't want to disappoint my amazing fans. However after last night's performance I could not walk and still can't."
Treatment for synovitis includes anti-inflammatory medication, ice to control inflammation, and rest. A gradual return to normal activities is recommended. Occasionally, a steroid injection into the inflammed joint is necessary. Physical therapy may be helpful to control the inflammation and to help assess underlying biomechanical causes of the synovitis.
