Over the past few years the popularity of yoga has continued to increase with the general public. The medical benefits of yoga have also become well known by health care professionals. For these reasons it is of no surprise that physical therapists have begun to incorporate the posture techniques of yoga in rehabilitation programs.

“Yoga therapy” utilizes yoga techniques and adapts them to specific musculoskeletal injuries. This way, an individual program is created to maximally benefit each patient’s rehab goal. As some injuries can be aggravated by twisting techniques, it is important that a therapist trained in both yoga and physical therapy manage the individual poses in a personalized yoga rehabilitation program.

Before starting a yoga therapy program, it is important to be evaluated by your physician first.
