Diastisis Recti

Diastisis recti is a medical condition in which there is a separation of the right and left rectus abdominus muscle. The rectus abdominus muscle is the most superficial abdominal muscle. This separation can be felt down the midline of the abdomen. Diastisis recti commonly occurs in pregnancy due to the expanding abdomen. The degree of separation is measured by the amount of finger widths. Strengthening of the abdominal muscles in important in preventing and helping recover from diastisis recti.
