Overview:

One of the most serious injuries involving the elbow is an elbow dislocation. It occurs when an outside force acts on the joint displacing the bones from their proper allignment.

Cause:

Typically this results from falling on an outstretched arm. It is commonly as a result of a contact sport or fall from a height.

Symptoms:

An immediate loss of motion in combination with pain over the elbow surface occurs. The elbow may also appear deformed.

Diagnosis:

An xray as well as evaluation by a medical professional can make the diagnosis of elbow dislocation.

Treatment:

To fix this problem, elbow joint needs to be reduced, or put back in alignment. Since sedation and pain management are often needed, the reduction should only be performed by a medical provider
